Have you heard about Rifqa Bary? She's a 17-year-old cheerleader from Ohio. She's pretty. And she's run away from her parents for fear of her life. Rifqa is an ex-Muslim. While in high school, she converted to Christianity. When her parents found out, they went ballistic. According to her court affidavit, her father picked her laptop over his head and exclaimed, "If you have this Jesus in your heart, you are dead to me! You are no longer my daughter. I will kill you! Tell me the truth!" Her mother allegedly threatened to send her back to Sri Lanka "to be dealt with." Video interview after the jump.
In an interview, Rifqa said over tears:
"I'm fighting for my life. You guys don't understand. … I want to worship Jesus freely, that's what I want. I don't want to die."
She is staying with an evangelical pastor's family in Florida. Would you say a quick prayer for Rifqa today? She's probably getting ready to go to college, and you can see from her interviews she is genuinely concerned about her life and just wants to worship Jesus.
