Everyone in the dorm marched outside to escape the screeching noise of the fire drill. The BASIC group lost about 20 minutes of their meeting due to this interruption. Couldn’t it have been planned an hour later?
But when everyone marched back inside, a girl who had been in her room recognized a friend from class. He was going back into the BASIC meeting, so she followed him in. She actually enjoyed the rest of the meeting. She decided to come back the next week.
That meeting was this last Tuesday. My staff and I from BASIC central came to lead worship and speak to the forty-five students crammed in the dorm lounge. At the end of the meeting, one of our staff members named Cheryl started a conversation with the girl. Cheryl heard the story about the fire alarm. Cheryl recognized this girl was looking for something more in life. On October 20, Cheryl told the girl how to receive salvation from Christ, and the girl prayed to join God’s family.
How awesome is it to have another sister in Christ! But just as cool, I couldn’t help but recognize the Lord’s hand in what could be considered a disappointing, aggravating interruption to God’s meeting. God used a fire alarm to bring home another student. We were so glad to be a part of it!
